Crisis Cube (2006)
Amongst many other things, Crisis is a charity that opens centres for homeless people over the Christmas period and I was asked by Architecture for Humanity to design a seating unit for such events.
The Crisis Cube is a multifunctional unit, primarily used as seating it also can be securely stacked forming shelving units or space dividers. During the construction of the venues the segments can be slotted together with both ease and speed due to it's simple and intuitive design. After Christmas the units can be dismantled with the same ease and then stored as flat-pack, thus saving valuable space and money in storage. Each Cube is made from exactly one sheet of MDF without any waste material, this is important as all their materials are donated from the private sector and so they cannot afford to waste the materials gathered. The Cube will hopefully be in production in time for Christmas 2008.
Due to all the interest received the cube is currently being redesigned for public use.
